Total (over/under)
What does "total (over/under)" mean in sports betting?
A total, or over/under, is a bet on whether the combined score of both teams lands above or below a number the sportsbook sets.
You don't pick a winner at all. You only care how many points, runs or goals get scored in total. Books also offer team totals (one team's score), first-half totals and alternate totals.
Totals move on weather, injuries to key offensive players, pace of play and, in baseball, on who's actually starting on the mound.
Example
The total is 47.5. The game ends 27-21, which is 48 combined points, so the over wins. If it ended 24-20 (44 points), the under would win.

Alt line
An alt line (alternate line) is a spread, total or player prop set at a different number than the main line, with the price adjusted to match.
Point spread
The point spread is a handicap that evens out a matchup: the favorite has to win by more than the spread, and the underdog covers by losing by less than it or winning outright.
Push
A push is a tie against the betting line. Your stake is refunded, with no win or loss.
Line movement
Line movement is when a sportsbook changes a spread, total, prop or price after it opens, usually because of news or the money coming in.
