How the hedge math works
Same result either way. Bet enough on the other side that both outcomes pay the same. Hedge stake = original stake × original decimal odds ÷ hedge decimal odds. With $100 at +300 (4.00) and a hedge at -200 (1.50), that is $266.67, and you net +$33.33 whichever side wins.
Get my stake back. Bet just enough that a hedge win returns your original stake. Hedge stake = original stake ÷ (hedge decimal odds - 1). At -200 that is $200: you are back to even if the hedge wins, and you keep the original's profit minus $200 if the original wins.
A hedge trades upside for a smaller swing, and both sides carry the book's margin. If the hedge price is worse than the original was, the same result either way can be a small loss. The calculator shows the net for each outcome, counting both stakes.

Multiply your original stake by its decimal odds, then divide by the hedge's decimal odds. $100 at +300 (4.00) hedged at -200 (1.50) is $100 × 4.00 / 1.50 = $266.67 on the hedge, which nets +$33.33 whichever side wins.
How do I hedge just to get my stake back?
Divide your original stake by the hedge's decimal odds minus 1. $100 hedged at -200 (1.50) is $100 / 0.50 = $200. If the hedge wins you are back to even; if the original wins you keep its profit minus the $200.
Does hedging cost money?
Usually some. Each side carries the book's margin, so a hedge trades part of the original upside for a smaller swing. The calculator shows the net result for each outcome so you can see the trade before you place anything.
