What do +150, -250 and +100 mean? American odds explained
A plus sign (+150) shows the profit on a 100-unit stake, a minus sign (-250) shows the stake needed to profit 100, and +100 is even money: stake 100, profit 100.

The three numbers in plain terms
- +150: a 100 stake returns 150 profit plus the stake. Implied chance: 100 divided by 250, which is 40%.
- -250: a 250 stake returns 100 profit plus the stake. Implied chance: 250 divided by 350, which is 71.4%.
- +100 (even money): a 100 stake returns 100 profit. Implied chance: 50%.
Worked example with tonight's DraftKings lines on ESPN
ESPN lists DraftKings money lines for Nov 6, 2026. Here are three real ones:
- Boston Celtics at Charlotte Hornets: Celtics -378, Hornets +300. A 100 stake on +300 profits 300 (implied 25%). Winning 100 on -378 takes a 378 stake (implied 79.1%).
- Philadelphia 76ers at Cleveland Cavaliers: 76ers -148, Cavaliers +125. A 100 stake on +125 profits 125 (implied 44.4%).
- Utah Jazz at Dallas Mavericks: Jazz +217, Mavericks -264.
How to convert any American price
- Plus price: implied chance = 100 / (price + 100).
- Minus price: implied chance = price / (price + 100), using the number without the minus sign.
