Indiana beat Rutgers 47-15 on the road. The Hoosiers scored on their first two drives, led 23-0 at halftime and pushed it to 37-0 midway through the third quarter before Rutgers got on the board. Indiana finished with 593 total yards, 329 of them on the ground, with zero turnovers and zero penalties. Rutgers converted 2 of 14 third downs. Four DARIMARKET plays cashed on this game.

What cashed

ALT: Indiana -14.5 (alt, targeted -170 to -200): CASHED

  • Our read: The main line was Indiana -24.5. Indiana came in 4-0 on a 20-game win streak, Josh Hoover had 11 touchdown passes and no interceptions, and Rutgers was 1-3. Dropping to 14.5 bought 10 points of cushion.
  • What happened: Indiana won by 32, clearing the alt by 17.5. Turbo Richard ran for 204 yards on 13 carries, including a 14-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and Lee Beebe Jr. added 122 yards and a score. Indiana kept Rutgers off the board until late in the third quarter.
  • Worth watching: The gap between the main number and the alt was the edge. When a heavy favorite is priced far above a reachable alt, that cushion is worth checking again.

Indiana ML (-2400 at DraftKings): CASHED

  • Our read: 4-0 Indiana was a 24.5-point favorite at 1-3 Rutgers. At -2400 we treated it as a parlay anchor, not a straight bet.
  • What happened: Indiana led from its first possession, an 8-play, 85-yard drive that ended in a 9-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Becker. After halftime, Rutgers never got closer than 22 points.
  • Worth watching: At a price this steep, the moneyline only makes sense as one leg of a bigger ticket. The math on these is worth knowing before you add one.

ALT: Charlie Becker 60+ receiving yards (alt, targeted -170 to -200): CASHED

  • Our read: Becker had 64, 81, 127 and 98 receiving yards coming in: 60 or more every game, blowouts included. Rutgers had just given up 42 points to USC.
  • What happened: Becker caught 8 passes for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns, 47.5 yards over the line. He had 43 yards on five catches in the first quarter, including the 9-yard score. A 13-yard catch on Indiana's opening drive of the third quarter got him to 56, and a 48-yard catch on the very next snap put him over. He added a 3-yard touchdown later in that quarter.
  • Worth watching: Becker kept getting targets even with Indiana far ahead. A receiver who stays involved in lopsided games fits an alt yardage line well.

ALT: KJ Duff 60+ receiving yards (alt, targeted -170 to -200): CASHED

  • Our read: Duff came in 4th in FBS with 550 receiving yards, 137 a game, and tied for 1st with 7 touchdown catches. As a 24.5-point home dog, Rutgers figured to throw. Indiana's defense was the risk, so we used the lower alt.
  • What happened: Duff caught 4 passes for 78 yards, 18.5 over the line. A 41-yard catch in the second quarter did most of the work, and a 13-yard grab just before halftime got him to 63. He added a 15-yard catch to the Indiana 1 in the fourth quarter, which set up Clay Thevenin's 1-yard touchdown run.
  • Worth watching: Four catches were enough because one went for 41. A top receiver on a team expected to trail all game is the setup, and the lower alt left room for a quiet day.

How the game played out

Rutgers turned it over on downs twice in the second quarter, and Indiana scored a touchdown after each one. Hoover threw touchdown passes to Becker twice, Davion Chandler and Nick Marsh. Rutgers' two scores came late: a 53-yard pass from AJ Surace to Ben Black III and Thevenin's run plus a two-point conversion.

Trends to watch

  • Indiana ran for 329 yards on 39 carries, and Richard averaged 15.7 a carry with a 57-yard long.
  • Nick Marsh led Indiana with 120 receiving yards on 7 catches, so Becker is not the only receiver getting volume.
  • Rutgers used two quarterbacks. Dylan Lonergan went 5 of 10 and Surace went 6 of 10, and Duff caught passes from both.
