Utah beat Houston 21-13 at home after trailing 10-0 in the third quarter. Neither team scored in the first quarter, and Houston's only first-half points came on a 24-yard Jonathan Dimas field goal. Makhi Hughes ran in from 2 yards to make it 10-0, but Utah answered with three rushing touchdowns, two of them from Devon Dampier. The game turned with 2:15 left, when Conner Weigman was sacked and fumbled at the Houston 9 with the Cougars down 14-13. Dampier scored on the next snap. Utah ran for 226 yards on 35 carries and outgained Houston 430 to 368. Two DARIMARKET plays cashed on this game.

What cashed

Conner Weigman 200+ passing yards (-214 DraftKings / -225 FanDuel): CASHED - Our read: Weigman had cleared 200 in 8 of his last 10 and 8 of his last 9 road games, averaging 236, and 275 over his last 3. - What happened: He completed 19 of 35 passes for 282 yards with no interceptions, 82.5 over the 199.5 line. Two deep throws to Amare Thomas did a lot of the work: a 56-yarder in the first quarter and a 45-yarder late in the third on the drive that ended in Dimas's 47-yard field goal. He averaged 8.1 yards per attempt. - Worth watching: He landed above his 275 average over the last 3 even with Houston scoring 13. When the run game is stuck, as it was here, the offense runs through his arm, which keeps this line in range.

Amare Thomas 4+ receptions (-158 FanDuel / -214 DraftKings): CASHED - Our read: Thomas had 4+ catches in 8 of his last 10, averaging 5.8 a game, and in 3 of Houston's last 4 losses. - What happened: He caught 5 passes for 133 yards, 1.5 over the 3.5 line. Two of the catches came on the 15-play, 75-yard touchdown drive in the third quarter, and his fifth was an 11-yarder early in the fourth. - Worth watching: His 5 catches sat close to his 5.8 average, and he was the top target in yards by a wide margin. Koby Young also caught 5, so the volume is shared, but Thomas is the one Weigman looks to downfield.

How the game played out

Houston had the better of the first half. Kentrell Webb picked off Dampier in the end zone in the second quarter, and the Cougars followed with a 15-play, 74-yard drive that ended in the first field goal. Utah's comeback started with a 22-yard Dampier run, and Wayshawn Parker's 5-yard run with 11:57 left gave the Utes their first lead. Dampier finished with 150 rushing yards on 15 carries. Houston's last drive ended on downs.

Trends to watch

  • Houston ran for 86 yards on 31 carries, with Hughes at 2.7 yards a carry. Weigman's passing yards carried the offense, which supports his yardage lines.
  • Thomas averaged 26.6 yards per catch. His yardage props are worth a look along with the catch count while he gets these deep shots.
  • Dampier averaged 10.0 yards per carry and scored twice on the ground. Utah's run game is the matchup to respect next time.
