Oklahoma vs. Georgia Recap: Four Oklahoma Turnovers Decide It
Georgia beat Oklahoma 41-13, and turnovers did most of the damage. Georgia led 28-0 at halftime after a Chauncey Bowens touchdown run, a 35-yard Gunner Stockton pass to Talyn Taylor, an 85-yard fumble return by Chris Cole and a second Bowens score set up by another Oklahoma fumble. The yardage was close, 306 for Georgia and 296 for Oklahoma, but Oklahoma turned it over four times. Five DARIMARKET plays cashed on this game.
What cashed
Georgia ML (-610 at FanDuel): CASHED
- Our read: Oklahoma was missing WRs Trell Harris and Jer'Michael Carter, its left tackle and two linebackers, and had scored 14 against New Mexico. Georgia was 3-0 and at home. Called by Darius.
- What happened: Georgia won by 28 and never trailed. Oklahoma didn't score until the third quarter.
- Worth watching: At -610 it only works as a parlay leg, and it was a safe one.
ALT: Georgia -6.5 (alt, targeted -170 to -200): CASHED
- Our read: Oklahoma put up 299 yards and 14 points against New Mexico and was down its left tackle. Georgia's defense was top 3 in SP+. The main line was -13.5, and we took the cushion. Called by Darius.
- What happened: A 28-point win covered -6.5 by 21.5. The main -13.5 covered too, by 14.5.
- Worth watching: The defense scored once and set up more points off fumbles. That is the edge this alt was built on, and it stays worth a look when Georgia faces a shorthanded offense.
Over 44.5 (-110): CASHED
- Our read: Georgia led FBS at 59.3 points and 539 yards per game. The model had the over at 55.6%, with lower confidence because Oklahoma's defense was allowing 7.7 points per game.
- What happened: The teams combined for 54, over by 9.5. It crossed on Peyton Woodring's 49-yard field goal with 8:13 left that made it 41-6.
- Worth watching: It got there, but not the way we pictured. Georgia's offense had only 306 yards, and its defense supplied a touchdown and two short fields.
ALT: Isaiah Sategna III 3+ receptions (alt, targeted -170 to -200): CASHED
- Our read: With Harris and Carter out, Sategna (4 catches per game) was the clear top target.
- What happened: He caught 8 passes for 81 yards, with a long of 37, and cleared 2.5 by 5.5. He tied Rocky Beers for the team lead in catches.
- Worth watching: The injury news pushed targets his way, as expected. His catch alts stay on the board while the receiver room is this thin.
Chauncey Bowens anytime TD (-160 at DraftKings): CASHED
- Our read: Nate Frazier was questionable with a rib injury, and Bowens is the back who takes carries if Frazier is limited.
- What happened: Frazier had no carries in the box score. Bowens scored twice, a 2-yard run in the first quarter and a 6-yard run just before halftime. He had 9 carries for 26 yards and a 24-yard catch.
- Worth watching: He got the goal-line work. His yardage was modest, so the touchdown prop is the cleaner way to play him.
How the game played out
John Mateer went 25 of 34 passing, 231 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception, and he lost two fumbles. Oklahoma ran 35 times for just 65 yards and went 2-for-14 on third down. It held the ball for 35:27 and still scored only 13.
Trends to watch
- Oklahoma's offense scored 13 with 65 rushing yards while missing two receivers and its left tackle. Its injury report is worth checking before every game.
- Georgia's defense can move a game by itself: a fumble-return touchdown and two short fields. That matters for Georgia spreads and totals alike.
- Georgia's backfield splits the work. Bowens got the short touchdowns, and Dwight Phillips Jr. had 84 yards on 8 carries with a 54-yard score.
