Jets vs. Bears Recap: Bears Run It 54 Times, Swift and Allen Alts Cash
The Bears beat the Jets 23-12 by running the ball and keeping it. Chicago held possession for 42:45, ran 54 times for 232 yards and outgained New York 492 to 157. The Jets never got into the end zone from close range, coming away without a touchdown on two red zone trips, and their only touchdown came on a 58-yard pass from Geno Smith to Isaiah Williams. Two DARIMARKET plays cashed on this game, both on running backs.
What cashed
D'Andre Swift 50+ rushing yards (alt, targeted -170 to -200): CASHED - Our read: Caleb Williams was out with a hamstring injury, so Tyson Bagent was starting and we expected Chicago to lean on the run. Swift had posted 124, 45 and 84 rushing yards on 16-20 carries, and the DraftKings main line was 65.5 on 15.5 carries. The alt at 50 gave us room under that. - What happened: Swift ran 15 times for 58 yards, with a long of 13, clearing 49.5 by 8.5. He added 2 catches for 16 yards. The game script was exactly what we wanted, but Kyle Monangai took the bigger share, with 30 carries for 146 yards and both Chicago touchdowns. - Worth watching: Swift finished under the 65.5 main line, so the alt is what made this work. With Monangai getting that kind of volume, we would keep leaning on alt numbers for Swift rather than the main.
Braelon Allen 40+ rushing yards (alt, targeted -170 to -200): CASHED - Our read: Breece Hall (quad) was inactive, which made Allen the lead back. DraftKings had him at 57.5 against 20.5 for Isaiah Davis. We flagged the risk: Allen had only 19 carries for 72 yards on the year, and the Jets said Davis would get his shot. At 63 confidence, this was a long shot that landed. - What happened: Allen ran 14 times for 59 yards, with a long of 10, clearing 39.5 by 19.5. He was the only Jets player with a carry, so all 59 of the team's rushing yards were his. He also caught 2 passes for 8 yards. - Worth watching: The workload question got a clear answer: Allen got every carry even though the Jets had the ball for just 17:15. If Hall stays out, Allen's role looks secure, though a game with more Jets snaps would help the number.
How the game played out
Chicago opened with a 14-play, 93-yard drive that ended on downs, then came back with a 12-play touchdown drive capped by a 1-yard Monangai run. The Bears were not clean, with an interception from Bagent, a lost fumble and only 2 touchdowns on 7 red zone trips, but Cairo Santos made all three field goals. A 5-yard Monangai run in the third pushed the lead to 20-6, and the Bears closed it out with an 18-play drive that ran the final 9:16.
Trends to watch
- Chicago's run volume: 54 rushing attempts and 12 rushing first downs. With Bagent at quarterback, the Bears showed how they want to play.
- The Jets' offense stalled. They converted none of their 7 third downs, took 3 sacks and ran only 14 times. Volume for Jets skill players will be hard to come by if that continues.
- Red zone finishing for Chicago: 2 of 7 here. Field goals instead of touchdowns kept this one closer than the yardage gap.
