Titans vs. Bengals Recap: Burrow Wins in OT, Higgins and Chase Cash
The Bengals beat the Titans 43-36 in overtime, and it took every minute to get there. Tennessee jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter behind a 40-yard Tony Pollard touchdown run and two Joey Slye field goals. Cincinnati answered with 21 straight points, and the teams traded scores the rest of the way. Tee Higgins tied it at 36 with 1:17 left, and Joe Burrow won it with a 9-yard touchdown scramble in overtime. Burrow threw for 462 yards and 5 touchdowns with 3 interceptions. Seven DARIMARKET plays cashed on this game.
What cashed
Tee Higgins 50+ receiving yards (-273 at DraftKings): CASHED - Our read: Higgins had 50+ in 9 of his last 10, averaging 84.2 and 109 over his last 3. Tennessee came in 27th against receiving yards by our numbers. - What happened: Higgins caught 10 of 11 targets for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns, 105.5 yards over the line. He scored from 17 yards out early in the third quarter and from 18 yards out to tie the game in the final two minutes. - Worth watching: Eleven targets and a long of 32 says he is a main read for Burrow right now. The 50-yard line looks low for that role, but the price is steep, so it works best as a parlay piece.
ALT: Ja'Marr Chase 60+ receiving yards (-259 at DraftKings): CASHED - Our read: Chase had 60+ in 4 of his last 5 and 8 of his last 10. - What happened: Chase caught 11 of 16 targets for 141 yards, 81.5 over the line. His 30-yard touchdown in the second quarter got Cincinnati on the board. - Worth watching: Sixteen targets is a huge share even with Higgins this involved. When the game turns into a shootout, the 60-yard alt has a lot of room.
ALT: Chase Brown 3+ receptions (-235 at FanDuel): CASHED - Our read: Brown cleared 3+ catches in 9 of his last 10 and 16 of his last 20. At -235 the book implied 70%, and his recent games put it near 80%. - What happened: Brown caught 8 of 9 targets for 46 yards, 5.5 catches over the line. - Worth watching: Nine targets for a running back is real passing-game volume. The catch alt looks sturdy as long as that role holds.
Chase Brown 19+ receiving yards (-114 at FanDuel): CASHED - Our read: Brown cleared 19+ receiving yards in 7 of his last 10 and 14 of his last 20, about 67% against a 53% price. - What happened: His 46 receiving yards cleared the line by 27.5. He also had a 20-yard touchdown catch wiped out by a holding penalty in the second quarter, so the number could have been bigger. - Worth watching: This was the best price of his three props. Short catches add up fast for a back with this many targets.
Chase Brown 60+ rushing + receiving yards (-389 at DraftKings): CASHED - Our read: Brown hit 60+ scrimmage yards in 9 of his last 10, including 4 of his last 5. - What happened: He ran 12 times for 55 yards and added the 46 through the air for 101 scrimmage yards, 41.5 over the line. - Worth watching: The two-way usage gives this line a high floor. At -389 there is not much payout, so it fits as a leg rather than a stand-alone bet.
ALT: Joe Burrow 5+ rushing yards (-138 at FanDuel): CASHED - Our read: Burrow cleared 5+ rushing yards in 8 of his last 10 and 9 of his last 14. The -138 price implied 58% against about 69% from recent games. - What happened: This one needed overtime. Burrow had 1 rushing yard on 2 carries through regulation, then scrambled 9 yards for the winning touchdown to finish with 10, 5.5 over the line. - Worth watching: Quarterback rushing lines this low depend on a scramble or two. It cashed, but it was closer than the final number looks.
ALT: Titans +13.5 (-124 at DraftKings): CASHED - Our read: Tennessee covered +13.5 in 8 of its last 10, including 6 of 8 on the road, and Cincinnati failed to win by 14+ in 6 of its last 10. - What happened: The Titans lost by 7, so the spread cashed by 6.5. Tennessee led three separate times and was up 36-29 with 3:46 left after a Wan'Dale Robinson touchdown and a Cam Ward two-point pass. - Worth watching: Big alt spreads on a team that keeps games close are worth a look. Tennessee put up 440 yards here, so this was not a backdoor cover.
How the game played out
Turnovers kept it wild. Cincinnati gave it away 4 times and Tennessee 2, and a third-quarter safety on a Pollard run put the Bengals up 23-21. Cincinnati was 7-10 on third down and 5-6 in the red zone.
Trends to watch
- Burrow attempted 48 passes and spread 435 net passing yards mostly across Higgins, Chase, Mike Gesicki and Brown. Cincinnati receiving lines carry real volume.
- Pollard ran 21 times for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Ward added 41 rushing yards. Tennessee's run game moved the ball all day.
- The teams combined for 950 total yards. When these offenses meet, the game total is worth checking before kickoff.
