Canadiens vs. Jets Recap: Connor, Perfetti, Vilardi Shot Props Cash
The Canadiens beat the Jets 2-1 in regulation, and they did it while getting outshot 34-21. After a scoreless 1st, Montreal scored twice at even strength in the middle frame: Lane Hutson at 7:19 of the 2nd and Kaiden Guhle at 11:04 of the 2nd. Winnipeg pushed the rest of the way, outshooting Montreal 13-6 in the 3rd, but only Isak Rosen's snap shot at 15:24 of the 3rd got past Jacob Fowler, who made 33 saves on 34 shots. The Jets went 0-for-4 on the power play. Three DARIMARKET plays cashed on this game, all Winnipeg shot props.
What cashed
Kyle Connor 3+ shots on goal (-175 at DraftKings): CASHED - Our read: Connor came in with 3+ shots in 4 of his last 5 and 9 of 10 this season, averaging 4.4 shots a game. We took the volume. - What happened: Connor put 5 shots on goal in 24:23 of ice time, 6:16 of it on the power play. That cleared the 2.5 line by 2.5. He had no points, but two of those shots came in the 3rd as Winnipeg chased the game. - Worth watching: Over 24 minutes a night with 6-plus minutes of power-play time is a strong base for a shot prop. The price is steep, so the number matters more than the name.
Cole Perfetti 2+ shots on goal (-210 at DraftKings): CASHED - Our read: Perfetti had 2+ shots in all 5 of his last 5 and 9 of 10 this season. A low line for a player shooting that steadily. - What happened: Perfetti finished with 4 shots on goal, clearing the 1.5 line by 2.5. He played 24:01 with 6:19 on the power play and added 4 hits. - Worth watching: His usage was nearly identical to Connor's: over 24 minutes with over 6 minutes on the power play. At -210 the 2+ line is short-priced, so a 3+ ladder can be worth checking when the minutes look like this.
Gabriel Vilardi 2+ shots on goal (-132 at FanDuel): CASHED - Our read: Vilardi had 2+ shots in 4 of his last 5 and 8 of 10 this season on Winnipeg's top line. - What happened: Vilardi got exactly 2 shots on goal in 18:32, with 5:26 on the power play. That cleared the 1.5 line by 0.5, the thinnest margin of the night. He also picked up the primary assist on Rosen's goal at 15:24 of the 3rd, Winnipeg's only goal. - Worth watching: He played less than Connor and Perfetti, so this one had less cushion. The price was the best of the three, which is the tradeoff.
How the game played out
The 2nd decided it. Hutson's wrist shot opened the scoring at 7:19, and Guhle doubled it with a wrist shot at 11:04, both at even strength. Winnipeg led the shot count in every period, 10-8 in the 1st, 11-7 in the 2nd and 13-6 in the 3rd. Fowler stopped all 9 power-play shots he faced, and Montreal never had a power play of its own. Stuart Skinner made 19 saves on 21 shots for Winnipeg.
Trends to watch
- Winnipeg's top group carried the minutes. Connor, Perfetti and Mark Scheifele all played over 24 minutes with over 6 minutes on the power play, and Scheifele led the team with 7 shots on goal.
- Connor, Perfetti and Vilardi combined for 11 shots on goal. Winnipeg outshot Montreal 34-21, and most of that volume ran through its top players.
- Montreal took four minor penalties and Winnipeg went 0-for-4 with them. Fowler's 9 power-play saves were a big part of his night, so his workload is worth noting next time he starts.
