Each team scored one power-play goal, Florida on six chances and San Jose on four. Akira Schmid made 28 saves on 32 shots for Florida, and Yaroslav Askarov stopped 23 of 26 for San Jose. Two DARIMARKET plays cashed on this game.

What cashed

ALT: Over 4.5 total goals (alt): CASHED - Our read: San Jose gave up 3.54 goals a game last season, third-most in the league, with Askarov saving .884. Akira Schmid was projected to start for Florida instead of Markstrom. - What happened: The game finished with 7 total goals, 2.5 over the line. Luostarinen's tip-in at 5:01 of the 3rd was the fifth goal and cleared it, and two more followed, including the overtime winner. Schmid did start and finished at .875 on 32 shots. - Worth watching: A lowered total in a Sharks game is worth a look again when the goalie read lines up. The alt price is the tax, so we only like it at the number we posted.

Brady Tkachuk 3+ shots on goal (-200 at DraftKings): CASHED - Our read: Tkachuk averaged 3.68 shots a game last season and reached 3+ in 75% of his 60 games. He logged 16:33 with 6:05 of power-play time in Florida's opener. - What happened: Tkachuk put 4 shots on goal, 1.5 over the 2.5 line, in 19:37 of ice time with 6:34 on the power play. He also had 5 hits. He did not score or pick up a point, but the shot volume carried the prop. - Worth watching: His power-play time went up from the opener, and Florida drew six power plays here. As long as he holds that PP role, 3+ shots stays a live angle; the price at -200 means we need it to hit often.

How the game played out

The 2nd period swung it early. Smith's shorthanded goal at 5:52 and his power-play goal at 10:37, both set up by Celebrini, put San Jose up 3-0. Florida flipped the 3rd, scoring twice in 17 seconds to tie it, and the game went to overtime before Cagnoni's wrist shot settled it.

Trends to watch

  • Celebrini drove San Jose's offense with 7 shots on goal and 3 assists in 22:57 of ice time. His assists came on both Smith goals and Cagnoni's overtime winner.
  • Florida leaned hard on its top power-play group: Matthew Tkachuk logged 9:10 of power-play time and Sam Reinhart 7:07, with Florida getting six chances.
  • Askarov faced 26 shots, a lighter night than Schmid's 32. Florida also threw 41 hits to San Jose's 24 in a physical game.
