Memphis beat Army 49-22. Army ran the ball 51 times for 320 yards and held it for 31:55, but Memphis was far more efficient with its chances. The Tigers converted 11 of 15 third downs, piled up 554 total yards and scored a touchdown on seven different drives. The game was tied 14-14 midway through the second quarter before Memphis ran off three straight touchdowns to take control. Two DARIMARKET plays cashed on this game.

What cashed

Marcus Stokes 2+ passing TDs (-215 FanDuel): CASHED - Our read: Stokes had thrown 2+ touchdown passes in 7 of 8 games this season and in five straight, and he was coming off a Manning Award week with 5 TDs against Charlotte. We shaded our number down a notch because Army limits possessions. - What happened: Stokes completed 29 of 35 passes for 371 yards with 4 TDs and 0 interceptions. He had this one cleared before the first quarter ended: a 13-yard score to Jermane Hayes at 7:16 and a 5-yarder to Hayes with 0:28 left. He added two more to Jemyri Davis, from 15 yards just before halftime and 26 yards in the third quarter, and ran one in from 1 yard in the fourth. That is 2.5 over the 1.5 line. - Worth watching: The possession concern was real, since Army held the ball for most of the night, but Stokes made his drives count. When a quarterback is this efficient, a low-volume opponent matters less than it looks on paper.

Cale Hellums anytime TD (-650 DraftKings / -475 FanDuel): CASHED - Our read: Hellums had scored in 8 of his last 10 games and 6 of 7 this season, and we saw Memphis as a good anytime TD matchup. He had also hit in 9 of 10 outdoor games. - What happened: Hellums punched in a 2-yard run at 4:46 of the third quarter to finish a 5-play, 75-yard drive, then threw the two-point conversion to Zach Mundell to cut the deficit to 35-22. He carried 13 times for 34 yards and also threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Samari Howard in the second quarter. - Worth watching: Hellums carried 13 times as Army's quarterback and scored from 2 yards out, which is the usage this prop is built on. The catch is price: at -650 there is very little room, so the better shop was the -475 at FanDuel.

How the game played out

Army answered both early Memphis scores to tie it at 14. From there Memphis scored on drives of 68 and 86 yards before the half to lead 28-14, then went up 35-14 on a 26-yard throw to Davis. Godspower Nwawuihe ran for 100 yards and a score on 19 carries for Army, but the Black Knights passed for only 45 yards and two fourth-quarter interceptions ended their last two drives. Jaylin Carter added two short rushing touchdowns for Memphis.

Trends to watch

  • Memphis converted 11 of 15 third downs and finished with 554 yards. Stokes passing props are worth a look even in matchups where his efficiency has to make up for fewer drives.
  • Army ran 51 times and Hellums took 13 of those carries. That workload keeps his anytime TD on our radar, but shopping the price matters.
  • Jermane Hayes caught 9 passes for 86 yards and two scores and Jemyri Davis caught two touchdowns. Both were Stokes' main scoring targets in this one.
