What is a nationality prop?
A nationality prop, often listed as a Top Nationality market, is a bet on which player will finish highest among the players from one country or region in an event. In golf, books post markets like Top American, Top European or Top Englishman for a tournament. You're not betting on the overall winner, only on who finishes best within that group, so a player can win your bet while finishing 15th overall.
Nationality props are most common in golf, where big fields include players from dozens of countries. A sportsbook groups the players by country or region and prices each one to be the best finisher in that group. Smaller groups, like Top Australian, often offer prices on players who would be long shots to win the whole tournament.
Ties are common, so read the dead-heat rule. If two players tie for the best finish in the group, most books split the stake: you're paid at full odds on part of your bet and lose the rest. Withdrawals matter too; many books settle the market only among players who teed off, and some void bets on players who never started. Rules differ by book.
How to research one: look at each player's recent finishes in comparable events, the course type, and how many players are in the group, since a group of 5 is very different from a group of 40. As with any prop, past finishes describe what happened, not what will.
